Before The Mystery Method
Well, back in my AFC days I was really shitty with women...like a hard core chump. I'm not the greatest looking guy on earth, but I still managed to become friends with some descent chicks...the problem is I always ended up in friend zone. So, long story short, when I first moved to California, I was all about this gorgeous Persian chick - if you've never been to SoCal, it's stacked with super fine Persian chicks, and for a guy like me who loves dark hair and dark skin, it's like heaven - anyway, I had her hooked I thought for sure. I could tell she was starting to get into me and I'm thinking..."I'm about to nail this Persian goddess!" Then, like all the rest I slipped into that damn friend zone. You know that dreaded place where a lot of guys inevitable end up in their relationships with beautiful women that never leads to any action and always leads to the 4 words that make up the most profane phrase in the English language..."Let's just be friends."
Ehh...those words send shivers down my spine...I've heard them way too much. Anyway, this whole thing with the Persian chick happened about 3 years ago and right after that I was so pissed off that I blew it again, I thought, "Screw this! There's a problem here and I'm just not seeing the solution." So I jumped online, did a little searching, and stumbled accross the Mystery forums (Now known as The Attraction Forums, but still the same place).
That forum led me to Mystery's book, which back then was just an eBook called The Venusian Arts Handbook - I say "just" an ebook, but that book soon became the manual to my sex life. Holy shit! I was seriously blown away when I read that book...so blown away, in fact, that here I am 3 years later and I still have that book in my office and I still read bits and pieces of it every day.
Then Mystery Got Published
So, after a while, Mystery and his forums were starting to get pretty popular, enough so that VH1 decided to make a show about his antics, which you can check out here. So, soon after that show aired, St. Martin's Press decided it might be a good idea to put the Venusian Arts Handbook into writing. And if the New York Times is right (they referred to Mystery as "One of the most admired men in the world of seduction"), it was a good idea someone published this book...it's a freakin' instruction manual for your sex life.
Now, like I said in this review, Double Your Dating was the first of the many seduction/dating books I read, but I picked up a copy of Mystery's book soon after and I've got to say, David D's book was great for starting out, but Mystery's book is seriously a beginning-to-end, nothing-left-out instruction manual for getting laid. It's fucking fantastic.
Pros
Ok, so every book's gotta have it's pros and cons, right? Well lets dig into the pros and cons of The Mystery Method
- This book is some serious shit...a completely throughough coverage of everything you'd want to know about how to make women want you
- One of the greatest things about this book is that it breaks a relationship down into 7 phases that are actually based on psychological studies of the different stages romantic relatioships go through - it's good that it incorporates solid scientific evidence in it's ideas and techniques
- If you peel away the context, this book could really be about success in anything at all...it could be about marketing and closing any sale: don't be needy, be mentally able to walk away from any deal, understand the value of having high social proof, invest others in you, develop a process, and screw one-liners
- For those who say, "Act naturally and practice, you don't need advice books", everyone can benefit from coaching. Even Michael Jordan acknowledged how coaches helped his basketball game.
Cons
- The book is kind of a heavy read...I don't mean it's a huge book - I said it's the instruction manual for getting laid...well, it reads like an instruction manual too. This could be good or bad, depending on you...on the good side, it's succinct, straight to the point, and approaches the "art" of getting laid from a no-frills, do this then this then this then you get laid, perspective. On the other hand, if you like to read really exciting shit, better not get your hopes up.
- Another problem some people have with the book is the fact that Mystery's approach promotes a lot of canned openers - not cheesey one-liners, just ready-made conversation-starters. If you're uptight about using canned material, then you're going to have a problem with Mystery's technique. The good news, though, is he only advocates the canned openers and pre-thought-out stories when you're just getting started...I mean, isn't that most guys problem...too little to say? Well, canned lines, while super effective, are still canned lines..but hey, you've got to crawl before you can walk right?
- Don't let those cons fool you...if you've ever even thought for a second that it might be nice to have sex with any woman you want - and if you're a guy I'd bet a dollar you have - this book is an absolute must-read...no, do like I do and pick up this book and keep it in your closet or in the drawer of your nightstand and read it and reread it on a regular basis...your jimmy will thank you!
The only other thing I have to say about The Mystery Method is that you can get it for around $8 by clicking here, which is a hell of a lot better than the $60 I paid back when
it was the Venusian Arts Handbook.
